If you're in the New York City area, and have the ability and desire to put in one to two months doing nothing but playing games, Freeverse Software (my previous employer) has a desperate need for competent Xbox 360 game testers.
If I could take the time off of work, I'd do it, because this game is awesome. This is the sort of game you want to be a tester for.
If you're interested, shoot me an email - remydwd at that google mail service.
"That's odd", I thought. I had never actually seen a Google service just fall off the map, even for a short length of time. Nothing that couldn't be fixed with a quick reload, anyhow.
This could be taken as easily visible evidence of the lack of support Dens was referring to when he said (boldface mine):
The other possibility is that Google is, indeed, leaving Dodgeball on the vine to die. This very well may be a serious system problem, but with the founders gone, there may be even less motivation to put resources towards it. Whoever is stuck fixing this is undoubtedly swamped.
It's no real secret that Google wasn't supporting dodgeball the way we expected. The whole experience was incredibly frustrating for us - especially as we couldn't convince them that dodgeball was worth engineering resources, leaving us to watch as other startups got to innovate in the mobile + social space.
There is a third possibility that something is deeply wrong with Google's operations group's monitoring/paging tools - and I've certainly suffered a few outages at work because of similar problems - but that's almost more troubling.
Book: Show us one of your favorite cookbooks.
Can I show two? Damn right I can.
The cookbook I've "cooked" out of the most - my Donvier was my most prized kitchen tool growing up. Not just ice cream recipes - the hot chocolate (not cocoa) recipe is to die for.
I have the first edition of this, and I love the recipes listed within, but truth be told, I have not cooked a single thing out of it.
But I've now fetched it from the shelf, and perhaps this will change soon.
I am traditionally not much for snacks or beverages marketed as "diet" or "light". But because I have been hit with some self-consciousness lately, I have tried three such products.
The first was Lays Light. 75 calories a serving, no fat, and amazingly, they taste exactly like regular Lays - maybe with a touch less salt, but still. Better for you than Baked Lays, and tastier, too? I'm sold.
Then, by extension, I tried Ruffles Cheddar & Sour Cream Light. The regular version are possibly my favorite mass-market chips and somehow, these are even better. They taste exactly the same, and again they're 75 calories a serving with no fat. How is that possible? Sold on these too.
I also had a chance to try the new Cherry Coke Zero today. My previous reaction to Coke Zero was merely "blech" - Cherry Coke Zero has the odd distinction of not tasting at all of cherry, but the flavoring that's been added makes it taste almost like regular Coke. Almost but not quite. Going to pass on this.
Having been out of the office for the last week, it's good to come back to:
- No new meetings added to my calendar
- No voicemail
- No fires
Ahhh.
Ever run for office? (School, club, organization, politics, etc.) Did you get elected?
I ran for vice-president of student council once in 7th Grade. My campaign speech was only notable because I made a comment to the effect of "Even if you don't vote for me, vote for [this other kid] for president."
The other kid won, but I sure as hell didn't.
I also never ran for a position in the much-beloved Cornell Concert Commission, but I was installed in the executive board (as Production Director) for one semester when a friend of mine was forced to leave the school. I ran two shows: Cake + Rahzel + Spoon (which went perfectly!) and Biz Markie + Run DMC (which went horribly).
